He is honoured and humbled to have been awarded Honorary Life Membership Mediterranean Lifesaving Confederation.
Allum, commented about his recognition: "Thank you for your most unexpected letter dated 22 April 2024. The very generous offer of MLC Honorary Life Membership is a wonderful honour and one that I am humbled to accept. The Mediterranean basin faces unique humanitarian challenges with the too often tragic loss of life as people attempt to cross the sea to seek a better way of life. The MLC is to be congratulated on its formation and its ideals that are totally consistent with the IILS, our peak world body. A key element of water safety education is the promotion of lifesaving sport that demonstrates lifesaving capacity and safety in the water through athletic competitions. With an emphasis on water safety the MLC certainly promotes the Olympic motto of “faster higher, stronger, (and safer) - together”. And, hopefully, one day Lifesaving will be admitted as an Olympic Sport furthering the ILS and MLC ideals. I extend my congratulations and best wishes to the MLC and again thank you for the honour!"
The MLC President, Giorgio Quintavalle and the MLC Secretary General, Dr Stathis Avramidis, said on this occasion: “Greg Allum is a world level legend of lifesaving sport. His contributions to our field in various positions is rich in content and duration. His sirene mindset, modesty and kindness gain instantly the attention of everyone whereas his achievements and contributions are outstanding. We are truly proud to enlist him among the great honorary members of our lifesaving family. He will be a good role model to our Mediterranean athletes!”
