The ILS recognized the MLC
World 24.02.2024. The International Life Saving Federation (ILS) recognized formally the Mediterranean Lifesaving Confederation (MLC) at its electronic board meeting. The MLC aims to include lifesaving sport on the program of the Mediterranean Games and Beach Games. This will also enhance the aspiration of lifesaving to eventually enter the Olympic Games. The MLC should operate only lifesaving sport and should not deal with other core goals that are dealt by the ILS and the ILS regions (e.g., drowning prevention, water safety, lifeguarding). The MLC was represented by its President, Giorgio Quintavalle, who provided an overview of the current status of this new initiative. He particularly explained that the MLC has now a logo, webpage and currently prepares the 1st Mediterranean Lifesaving Championships. He also explained that Dr Stathis Avramidis, President of the Greek Lifesaving Sports Association, was decided to serve as acting Secretary General.
