Dr Vicky Bafataki becomes an MLC Honorary Life Member
Mediterranean 14.05.2024. The Mediterranean Lifesaving Confederation (MLC) proudly announces that the Secretary General of the Vexillum Giuseppe Sciacca International Awards, Dr Vicky Bafataki (Greece), became an MLC Honorary Life Member.
Dr. Vasiliki (Vicky) Bafataki has degrees in Archaeology, Communication and Media, Italian Language and Literature and postgraduate degrees in Byzantine Archaeology, Cultural Communication, Economics and Media, Cultural Management, Bioethics, a PhD in Cultural Communication, while she is currently completing another PhD in Bioethics at the Medical School of the Democritus University of Thrace. In 2005, she participated in the Giuseppe Sciacca Awards international competition for young researchers in the category "Communication-Journalism". She won among 362 young scientists. She has volunteered in large-scale projects for social solidarity and cultural heritage. In 2006 she became a member of the Presidency Committee, in 2008 she became a member of the Jury Committee, and in 2012 she became Secretary General of the Vexillum Giuseppe Sciacca International Awards. She is a Founding and Board Member of the Vexillum Foundation and Vice President and Member of the Scientific Committee of the International Institute of Law, Economic and Social Studies (Rome). She taught Philology courses in high schools, the Police Academy, public and private professional institutions. She has worked as a journalist and TV presenter in major Greek media and foreign networks. She is Vice President of the Scientific Association of Panteion University "Aristotle". Since 2015, Dr. Bafataki has supported or (co-)organized many lifesaving and drowning prevention activities in Greece (conferences, public statement announcements, campaigns, programs, national championships and cups) as Secretary General of Vexillum Giuseppe Sciacca, Honorary Member of the Greek Lifesaving Sports Association and the Hellenic Federation of Underwater Activities. Her awards include Vexillum Giuseppe Sciacca World Prize for Young Scientists in Media and Journalism (Vatican 2005); Plaque of Honour for Education and Culture (Camerino University, Italy 2005); World Ambassador of Italian Culture (Università per Stranieri di Perugia, Italy 2006); Medal and Scroll from the Gendermeria of the Vatican; Cross and Papyrus from the House of Vorvon (Spain 2018) and numerous national and international awards for her unconventional political and voluntary work.
Bafataki, commented about her recognition: "It is with my profound pleasure to receive and accept the MLC Honorary Life Membership. Drowning is a serious public health problem and an avoidable toll for mankind. The International Giuseppe Sciacca Awards, based at the Vatican City in Rome, that I represent, have done or supported numerous water safety and lifesaving sport initiatives mainly in my homeland of Greece the last decade. I have full understanding of the problem and know that lifesaving sport can be an excellent means for educating people in how to protect themselves and rescue others. I strongly support the idea of the including lifesaving sport in the Olympic Games. The establishment of the MLC and the orchestration of the Mediterranean Lifesaving Championships is an important stepping stone towards this direction. Stathis Avramidis, said on this occasion: “Dr Bafataki is a world class pillar for
humanity. Through her activities in Greece and Italy, she orchestrates, honors
and connects each year people from all over the world. She is a tireless
servant of sports, culture, arts and science advanving the human race. We are
absolutely delighted that she is inducted among our finest honorees!”
The award presentation took take place at the occassion of "Personalities 2024-2025", an award ceremony for distinghuished personalities in Greece.
